The International PDS in Roatán, Hoduras provides opportunities for students and faculty members from Buffalo State to gain exposure to the culture, community, and the natural environment of Honduras by working with local children, collaborating with a marine sciences institute, and completing service learning activities.

Roatán (view map) is the largest of the Bay Islands of Honduras, located off the northern coast an on the southern edge of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. It is about 5 miles across at its widest point and rests on a exposed ancient coral reef in the Caribbean. Roatán is known for opportunities for scuba diving and eco-tourism. English is the first language of native islanders, followed by Spanish.
The current program estimate of $4000 includes: round-trip flight, lodging, group ground transportation, group cultural excursions, travel health and evacuation insurance, required course textbooks, administrative fees, and passport. Final program costs are determined once all participants are enrolled. Some expenses are included in a one-time fee applied to participants' Buffalo State tuition. Other expenses participants direct-pay to vendors before and during travel.

Applications are accepted through the School of Education during open application periods only (see above). Applicants must submit a completed application form, essay of intent, one academic reference, and a copy of past grades and current course registration. Handwritten applications are acceptable.

- Open to all current Buffalo State undergraduate or graduate students - including those graduating the May prior travel
- Must maintain good academic standing
- Must be able to obtain passport
- Good fit for science, social studies, and teacher education majors
